Die wêreldbekende Duits-Japannese violis Mirijam Contzen sal aansluit by die Amici-kwartet en die plaaslike Portugese pianis Luis Magalhães, met 'n program van Mozart, Schubert en Chausson. Die Amici-kwartet, wie se werk al in die pers gehuldig is as " voedsel vir die siel", bestaan uit Suzanne Martens – die gas-konsertmeester van die Kaapstadse Filharmonie – en viooldosent aan die Universiteit se Konservatorium, verder Quentin Crida (leier van die Camerata Tinta Barocca), Karin Gaertner (eerste violis van die destydse Kaapstadse Simfonieorkes), en tjellis Peter Martens. Martens is in 2011 aangewys as die SAMA-wenner vir die vrystelling van sy en pianis Magalhães se CD-opname van Beethoven se tjello-sonates. Die konsert begin met Schubert se Rondo in A-majeur vir viool en strykkwartet, met Contzen as solis. Dié werk – uitgevoer in die oorspronklike besetting van viool en strykkwartet, en die enigste komposisie van dié aard in Schubert se oeuvre - is 'n gewilde werk by violiste en gehore. Mozart het self sy concerto KV 449 aangepas tot 'n kamermusiekwerk, wat in hierdie uitvoering deur Magalhães en die strykkwartet uitgevoer sal word. Na die pouse sal al ses musici saamspan vir die uitvoering van Chausson se concerto, op. 21. Die ongewone samestelling van die werk as "concerto" ten spyt, is dit 'n gunsteling by gehore, en een van die hoogtepunte in die Franse kamermusiek van die negentiende eeu. Mirijam Contzen & Luis Magalhães team up with Amici QuartetThe Endler Concert Series will begin its 2012 season on 7 February at 20:00 with a concert of beautiful chamber music. World famous German/Japanese violinist, Mirijam Contzen will team up with the Amici String Quartet and locally based Portuguese pianist, Luis Magalhães in a programme of Mozart, Schubert and Chausson. The Amici Quartet, hailed in Die Burger as “Gratification for the soul,” consists of Suzanne Martens – guest concertmaster of the Cape Philharmonic and violin lecturer at Stellenbosch University, Quentin Crida – leader of Camerata Tinta Barocca, Karin Gaertner – principle violist of the now defunct Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, and cellist, Peter Martens – winner of the 2011 Classical music SAMA for his CD recording of the complete Beethoven Cello Sonatas with pianist Luis Magalhães. The concert will begin with Schubert’s Rondo in A major for violin and string quartet, D. 438 with Mirijam Contzen as the solo violinist. The work, a classic favourite in its guise for violin and string orchestra, will be presented in its original form, a chamber version where a string quartet replaces the larger forces of the string orchestra. Mozart rewrote the accompaniments to a number of his piano concerti for string quartet for his own performance. One these most popular rewrites is for his concerto No. 14 in E flat major, K. 449, which in this concert will feature Luis Magalhães as the piano soloist. After the interval, all six musicians will join forces in Chausson’s Concerto in D major for violin, piano and String Quartet, Op. 21, a piece that despite its unusual combination of instruments, is recognised as one of the greatest examples of French Romantic chamber music. In 2012 word die aantal konserte verminder na 32, met 'n buitengewone versameling kunstenaars, met interessante en aantreklike programme. Konsertgangers sal bly wees om op te merk dat die bestuur van die Endler-Konsertreeks besluit het om nie kaartjiepryse te verhoog nie. Diegene wat vertroud is met die vorige programkategorieë, nl. Prestige, Orkes, Koor, Klavier, Kamermusiek, Pop en Matinée sal 'n vernuwing in die pakket opmerk: Jazz vervang Pop, 'n kategorie Recital word toegevoeg en die kategorie Klavier verval. Onder kunstenaars in die Prestige-kategorie gaan die internasionaal-erkende Duits/Japanese violis Mirijam Contzen saam met die Amici Quartet en Luis Magalhães (klavier) 'n uitvoering lewer van kamermusiek deur Mozart, Schubert en Chausson. Tjellis Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, wie se vertolking van Elgar se tjellokonsert tydens die Stellenbosch Internasionale Kamermusiekfees steeds in ons herinneringe leef, sluit aan by plaaslike tjellis Peter Martens met die pryswennerensemble Universiteit Stellenbosch Camerata; en op algemene versoek keer die Russiese klaviervirtuoos Konstantin Sherbakov weer op. Aan die middelpunt van hierdie besondere reeks staan 'n gala-konsert met een van die wêreld se beroemdste violiste, Joshua Bell. Hy sal Vivaldi en Piazzolla se Seisoene uitvoer saam met die US Camerata – 'n konsert wat ongetwyfeld vinnig uitverkoop sal wees na beskikbaarstelling van kaartjies! Die Universiteit Stellenbosch Simfonie-orkes bring enkele Franse meesterstukke op die spyskaart, soos Debussy se La Mer, Saint-Säens se “Orrel”-simfonie no. 3 en Offenbach se populêre Orfeus-ouverture. Sjostakowitsj se 5de Simfonie en Berg se vioolkonsert, met solis Frank Stadler uit Oostenryk is ook op die agenda, benewens die grootse Messiah van Handel.Die Universiteit Stellenbosch Simfoniese Blaas-ensemble bied as hulle jaarlikse "Band Extravaganza" 'n seleksie van koperblaas-concertos met die Blaasorkes. Die kore Canticum Novum, Schola Cantorum en die Stellenbosch Universiteitskoor tree almal op binne die konsertreeks. 'n Spesiale koorkonsert in samewerking met die Woordfees bring hulde aan die musiek van Hubert du Plessis. Heelwat plaaslike en internasionale kunstenaars sal optree in die res van die konserte wat beloof om van hoogstaande standaard te wees. Patrons will be pleased to note that the Endler Concert Series management has decided not to put up the ticket prices in 2012. Those who were familiar with the old categories ofArtists in the Prestige category include the internationally acclaimed German/Japanese violinist Mirijam Contzen who will be performing an interesting programme of chamber music by Mozart, Schubert and Chausson with the Amici Quartet and Luis Magalhães (piano). Cellist Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, remembered for his sublime performance of the Elgar cello concerto at the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival will join local cellist Peter Martens with the award winning Stellenbosch University Camerata and back by popular demand will be the Russian piano virtuoso, Konstantin Scherbakov. At the centre of this remarkable series is a gala concert featuring one of the world’s most celebrated violinists, Joshua Bell. Bell will perform Vivaldi and Piazzolla’s seasons with the US Camerata – a performance that is guaranteed to sell out within a few hours of the tickets going on sale. The University of Stellenbosch Symphony Orchestra will bring some great French masterpieces to the stage including Debussy’s La Mer, Saint-Säens “Organ” Symphony no 3 and Offenbach’s popular Orpheus overture. Shostakovich's 5th Symphony and Berg's violin concerto with soloist Frank Stadler from Austria are also part of the mix, not to mention Handel’s glorious Messiah. The University of Stellenbosch Symphonic Wind Ensemble will bring us their annual Band Extravaganza and a selection of Brass concertos with Wind Band. The choirs, Canticum Novum, Schola Cantorum and the Stellenbosch University Choir will also all perform. A special choral concert in collaboration with the Woordfees will celebrate the music of Hubert du Plessis. Many top local and international artists will fill the remaining concerts that promise to be of the highest standard yet presented.For lovers of jazz, this dedicated category will feature the ever popular Stellenbosch University Jazz Band as well as the internationally acclaimed Kyle Shepherd Trio.
