Beau Soleil Music Centre

The Beau Soleil Music Centre was started in 1982 by the Western Cape Education Department to meet the needs of specialised instrumental music tuition in the Cape Town area. From the initial 100 pupils, the Centre has grown to its current capacity of ± 400 pupils. Individual lessons in all orchestral instruments are provided by top performing instrumentalists in Cape Town. In conjunction with this tuition is an ensemble programme of Woodwind, String and Percussion ensembles which form an integral part of the learning process. Beau Soleil supports the study of music as a school subject for matric, and works closely with schools and the Education Department in this regard.
Beau Soleil is also actively involved in a variety of developmental projects including the highly successful Ifidyoli String Project, and in 2003 established the Beau Soleil Music for Africa Trust to support the Centre’s main activities, by creating music opportunities for the learners that could not otherwise afford to attend. Fundraising events include the Beau Soleil annual Gala Concert at the City Hall in August where all the ensembles perform, and a Musathon in October where students, parents and friends are invited to play in a day of continuous sponsored music.
Beau Soleil gives performing opportunities to it’s young students through free Chamber Concerts which take place on Wednesday evenings throughout the year. There are also specialised studio concerts and staff concerts. These concerts are all open to the public.
