Rodriguez Tribute Concert and Graham Gillot Band
The Rodriguez (Sugarman) Legend
Rodriguez is currently one of the world's biggest cult musicians with fans all over the world from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, to UK and across the USA. However, it was not until 15 years ago, when he was rediscovered working on a building site by local journalist Stephen Segerman and Craig Bartholomew; did the songwriter and singer of "Sugar Man" and "I Wonder" realise that his defining album "Cold Fact" (1970) had become a cult classic and that he was a beacon of revolution for the people of South Africa. Since 1994, when he was "rediscovered", Rodriguez returned to South Africa and Namibia four times and his albums have been released on CD worldwide. In 1998 Rodriguez featured in a television documentary "Dead Men Don't Tour". After more than 35 years it seems that the wheel of fortune is finally turning and Rodriguez’s fame is rapidly growing in his home town Detroit and throughout the USA. His albums are being re-released and there is a documentary movie being made about the “Sugarman” himself.
The Tribute band
In 2004, Rodriquez surprised an unknown local band by appearing unexpectedly at their "Tribute To Rodriguez" show in Sedgefield, South Africa. He appreciated the enthusiasm and hard work of the band and invited them to perform with him in 4 sold-out concerts in the Garden Route. At the time, the gentle soft-spoken musician said, "I'm supporting the musicians who support me but they're doing it better than me." In 2009 Rodriguez, returned to South Africa once again and performed with one of the musicians, Graham Sindall-Gillot, from the original Rodriguez Tribute band. Graham’s band Acoustica, was the backing band for Rodriguez during this SA tour. Rodriguez and the Acoustica band performed 6 sold out Barnyard shows, performing in Cape Town, Joburg, Pretoria and the Garden Route. During this time, the band got to know Rodriguez and came to understand his music at a deeper level. Who better to perform a tribute show than the band that toured with him? Rodriguez himself said, “I love the way the group interpret and play my music especially when they let go and open up.” The band consists of Graham Gillot, Duncan Combe and Jeane Combe.
The show promises to be a spectacular event. Something not to be missed.

Dear Principal and Head of Music
Reddam House School is organizing a ‘Messiah from scratch’ on Saturday, 11 September 2010 at the Cape Town City Hall. This is to be a fundraiser for Ashwin Willemse Brass Band from Manenberg. We will rehearse from 14h00 till 17h30 with the choir and perform at 19h30.
We have a staff member who will conduct and many willing choristers but our aim is to have a massed choir of teachers from all over the Peninsula who like to sing. To keep costs down we would also like volunteers for the ad hoc orchestra.
In order to participate, each chorister would have to purchase a score for R60.00. This will cover printing costs and the hire of the City Hall. The balance will be donated to the Ashwin Willemse Brass Band.
We would appreciate it if you could let us know how many teachers would like to be involved, so that we can arrange printing scores.
OR Any interested teachers can e-mail Reddam House Constantia at glendab@reddamh.wcape.school.za to reserve a place in the choir or orchestra. Please stipulate voice part or instrument.
Yours sincerely
A.L. WOOLLEY (MRS)

We are very excited to announce that award winning pianist Vassily Primakov will be perform in Stellenbosch on Friday 10th September at 8pm for the Endler Concert Series.
Vassily studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, and the competitions he has won have afforded him the opportunty to tour both as soloist and concerto performer across America and Europe thus firmly establishing his career on the concert platform. For this concert Vassily will be performing an All Chopin Programme. His recording of Chopin’s Mazurkas was named "Best of the Year" by America's National Public Radio and we will have copies of this recording, amongst others, for sale at the concert care of the newly formed CD Collectors Club.
