Alan Jeremy studied piano and violin at the Royal Academy of Music, London, before training to be a teacher at the University of London Institute of Education. After teaching at a large Birmingham comprehensive school, he was appointed Research Associate in Music Education at the University of Birmingham where he worked on projects to develop musical literacy in children.

Upon completing the three year appointment, Alan Jeremy became a Lecturer in Music at Hereford College of Education. Later, he was appointed Head of the Music Department at Hereford Sixth Form College.

In Hereford, Alan Jeremy has been an accompanist for the Police Male Voice Choir, the Honorary Librarian to the Choral Society, and a member of the committee, and a chorus member for, the Three Choirs Festival held tri-annually at Hereford Cathedral.
