Emyr Evans studied at the Northern School of Music in Manchester where he graduated with GNSM and gained ARCM (Piano) and LRAM diplomas in Voice Culture, Aural Training and Schools Music.
After Army Service and holding Heads of Department Music posts in various schools he moved into Music Education Advisory work in Norfolk where he had responsibility for the work of over fifty instrumental teachers and curriculum co-ordinators. Norfolk ensembles regularly achieved the highest awards at the prestigious annual National Festival of Music for Youth held in London. His responsibility also extended to directing the Norfolk Music Festival which provided an invaluable service to all music makers in the region. During this time in he continued to conduct massed schools and adult choirs in a wide range of music.
He has been closely involved with UK organisations including the Incorporated Society of Musicians, the Music Advisers National Association, the National Association of Education Inspectors and Advisers, and the Amateur Music Association of which he was Chairman. As an examiner with Trinity Guildhall, Emyr has examined and lectured in many locations and made regular visits to Australia, Arab Emirates, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, USA and West Indies in addition to locations in the UK.
Emyr Evans currently resident in Sydney, Australia, presently works as a freelance musician, adjudicator, teacher, writer and broadcaster. When he is not involved with music he enjoys golf, cycling and watching football. His son works in publishing in Berlin and his daughter, a viola player and music examiner herself with Trinity Guildhall, teaches in the UK and is a member of the Highly Strung Quartet.
